Introduction
The purpose of this assessment is to further develop your knowledge in Safety Management
Systems (SMS), including a specific aspect of SMS in greater depth.
Aspects of SMS that your paper can focus on include:
• Safety Policy and Objectives
• Safety Risk Management
• Safety Assurance
• Safety Promotion
• Safety Culture
• A real-world aviation enterprise SMS profile
Deliverable
Your group will submit, by the deadline of November 18 at 11PM Adelaide time, a written
assessment and associated coversheet, formatted as described below.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Don’t forget every member of the group must also submit their completed
Peer Review via SparkPlus by 11:30pm (30 minutes after the written assessment deadline
expires).
Formatting
Your paper should conform to the following format requirements:
• The length of the paper must be between 2000-3000 words (excluding references) with
the following suggested, but not required, organisation:
o Introduction (200-300 words)
o Discussion of the background of Safety Management Systems (700-1000 words)
o Discussion of chosen aspect (800-1200 words)
o Summary/Conclusion (300-500 words)
o Reference list
• Your reference list must follow APA formatting. For more information about APA
format, see

e_guide/in_text_citations_the_basics.html. Please note, you should only follow the
referencing rules of APA format for both in-text citations and the reference list. You do
not need to format the paper (margins, running head, etc) according to APA
requirements.
• You must include a minimum of 6 references, including 3 peer-reviewed scholarly

• You must submit a coversheet (using the template on Learnonline) along with your
paper that clearly outlines the specific contribution from each member of the group.
