Technology in Real Estate Project (Due Monday, December 5th at 3:25 pm)
You may work with a partner. Each person should submit a copy on Blackboard.
Project background: Technology is continually changing our world and real estate is no
exception. Digital disruptors like Zillow are changing the way information flows and lowering
the importance of brokers as gatekeepers. Physical disruptors like Honeywell are designing
products that make buildings smarter and more efficient (smart thermostats for example). In
between are many examples of tech enabled businesses providing products and/or services that
are disrupting the way business is done in real estate.
Project description: Write up a profile of a technology-centric company that is servicing the
real estate sector. It should be two pages long and focus on relevant information to someone
who might be considering using/purchasing the product. For example, if you are profiling a
property management software company then the two pages should focus on details relevant to
a property manager (features, differentiation from competition, potential ROI, etc).
● Tips/Notes
○ I will be sharing a signup sheet. No two individuals/groups should cover the
same company.
○ Page 22-24 of the ULI 2022 publication talks about Proptech. Exhibit 1-14 has
many different business areas that companies are developing technology in. If
you are struggling to find a company to research, look at one of the specific
categories and find a company within it.
○ The use of pictures/charts/data is encouraged but don’t get carried away.
○ If we have time at the end of the course we will go some of the submissions
together and discuss the importance of the company/technology to the real estate
industry
