MGMT90141 Examination FAQ
NOTE: Please carefully read and understand this FAQ document. Practice the processes
mentioned below and ask your workshop lecturer if you have any questions. All your questions
related to this document must be clarified before you sit for your MGMT90141 exam.
Please also read this UoM student guide to online examinations.
General Information on the Online Timed Exam
1. What type of exam will we be sitting?
This is an online open-book exam, with a time limit to complete the exam. There is a strict starting and ending
time.
2. What is the duration of the MGMT90141 exam?
The exam is 2 hours writing time with 15 minutes of reading time. Refer below and Question 3 for further
information about the suggested time structure of your MGMT90141 exam.
This exam requires a file upload. Your file may take some time to complete their upload in peak exam times.
Students are permitted up to 30 minutes after the scheduled completion time to upload and check files. File
uploads must be fully completed by this time (for example, an exam scheduled at 10am with 15 minutes
reading time + 120 minutes writing time + 30 minutes of upload allowance will have a final completion time
of 12:45pm). Students will not be able to make a submission after this time. Students who were prevented
from submitting before the completion time due to technical difficulties will need to apply for technical/special
consideration with supporting documentation. Please do not email the teaching team about this as they will
not be able to process your requests.
3. What is the suggested time structure for the exam?
This exam has been designed to be completed within 2 hours. The recommended time structure for you is:
• 15 minutes of reading the instructions, guidelines, on-screen declarations and reading of exam
questions
• 120 minutes for writing time
• 30 minutes for taking photos and uploading one pdf file into the “Submit Assignment” section of the
Canvas Assignment (upload allowance time)
It is crucial for you to test all the processes of sourcing blank pieces of A4 paper, pen(s), calculator, good
lighting, phone to take photos, saving them to your computer (.pdf) and then uploading it into Canvas
Assignment before your exam time ends.
If you upload your exam pdf during the 30 minutes upload allowance time, the Canvas system will generate a
late tag on your submission. Please kindly ignore this. You will not be subjected to any penalties. However,
you must ensure you submit well before the completion time; otherwise, you will be locked out of the system.
In this case, you will need to apply for technical/special consideration with supporting documentation.

No, there will not be any online invigilators for this exam. However, you are under examination conditions.
There is an expectation that you will be completing the exam in a private, quiet, and well-lit room. During the

submit should be your own work. Please be advised that online answers can be monitored and screened for
collusion, through Turnitin.
You will be subjected to severe penalties if there is any evidence that you have colluded with anyone or
committed any breaches of academic integrity. You must adhere to the values of honesty, trust, fairness,
respect, and responsibility.

9. How do I write my exam answers?
You are required to handwrite your answers on blank pieces of A4 paper. You are also expected to have your
answers in the correct order. Please start each ‘main’ question on a new A4 paper. On each page, you need to
write your student number and number the pages on the top right-hand corner of each page.
You cannot use an iPad, Surface Pro or any other technological devices that allows you to write your answers
electronically.
10. Can I type up my answers?
No. You cannot type your answers, and we would strongly recommend against it due to the time-consuming
nature of typing mathematical symbols and equations in MGMT90141. There may be instances where you
may have to draw, for example, network flow diagrams, decision trees, etc. This would not be easy to do so
efficiently. Therefore, you are required to write out your answers provided in the answer to Question 9.
11. May I use a pencil to write my answers?
Yes, you may use a pencil to write out your answers, provided your answers are readable when you take a
photo or image your answers. Please note that if you write faintly with a pencil, there is as a possibility that
your answers may not be captured clearly during the photographing of your answers. We highly recommend
a dark pen (blue/black) for this reason.
12. What happens if there is an IT issue/or connection drop-out?
You only need to make sure you are connected to the internet when you download the exam paper and upload
your answers. We strongly encourage you to leave plenty of time to upload your responses to account for any
technical difficulties. If you encounter IT issues, please view this webpage from the university.
13. How do I scan or have a soft copy version of my answers if I wrote my exam answers by
hand?
If you wrote out your answers on blank pieces of A4 paper, we recommend you use a free app such as
CamScanner, Google Drive, Adobe Scan or Microsoft Lens [Android, Apple iOS, Windows] to produce the PDF.
You can simply lay out your pages in order on a table to take photos, and the app will identify the page
boundaries, crop, and compile them into a PDF file. Please avoid any shadows when taking your photos.
It is a requirement that all your exam answers be converted into ONE pdf file.
Please review your PDF to ensure that all pages are readable, and the pages are in the correct order and
portrait orientation. Answers that cannot be read will not be marked. You might incur penalties if your
submission is not a single PDF file, or if the pages are not in order or correctly oriented.
We strongly recommend you practice these steps before you sit for your exam.
14. How do I upload my pdf into the Canvas exam?
A “Submit Assignment” button will appear within Canvas Assignment page, the page where you downloaded
your exam paper. You will have to locate on your file on your hard drive that you wish to upload. Select this

pdf and ensure it uploads into Canvas successfully. It is precisely the same as how you uploaded your Group
Assignment in MGMT90141.
We strongly recommend you practice these steps before you sit for your exam. We have prepared a mock
exam shell for you to experience the LMS-based exam environment.
15. Can you summarise the exam answers pdf requirements, please?
Make sure you have satisfied each of these requirements below before you upload your pdf file into Canvas.
• You must write your answers by hand on blank A4 paper (i.e., technological devices that allows you
to write your answers electronically will not be accepted)
• You must write your student number on the top right-hand corner of each page
• You must write the page numbers on the top right-hand corner of each page
• You must start a new page for each 'main' question of the exam
• You must clearly label your answers
• All pages must be converted into ONE pdf document before upload
• Your answers to the questions must be ordered correctly
• The pages are in the correct order and portrait orientation
• The pages need to be readable
At the End of the Exam
16. How do I submit my exam?
You will be submitting your exam answers on the same page where you downloaded the exam paper of Canvas
Assignment.
17. Will late submissions be accepted?
If you submit after the cut-off time in Canvas LMS, your submission will not be accepted. Late exam answers
via email will not be accepted if you have run out of time to complete questions/workings.
Students who were prevented from submitting before the completion time due to technical difficulties will
need to apply for technical/special consideration with supporting documentation. Please do not email the
teaching team about this as they will not be able to process your requests.
18. I received a late tag in the system. Do I need to worry?
If you upload your exam pdf during the 30 minutes upload allowance time, the Canvas system will generate a
late tag on your submission. Please kindly ignore this. You will not be subjected to any penalties. However,
you must ensure you submit well before the completion time; otherwise, you will be locked out of the system.
In this case, you will need to apply for technical/special consideration with supporting documentation.
