Session 1, 2023
Review Essay: Guidelines and Marking Guide
TASK: Write a critical appraisal of a review article from the list of ‘Review Articles’ (available
on the course website under ‘Review Essay’).
Articles will be allocated on a ‘first come‐first served’ basis. You must make a nomination of
your chosen article on the Review Article Nomination Forum (Course Moodle) by 20
February 2023, 5pm (Sydney Time). Students who fail to nominate an article by the
nomination deadline will be assigned an article by their tutor.
You are also required to present a summary of the article in your tutorial. Your presentation
should be a maximum of 5 minutes (around 4 ppt slides). Your mark is based on both your
written review (20%) and your presentation (5%). Class presentations of review articles will
commence in week 2. Your Review Essay must be submitted within one calendar week of
your nominated article week – e.g. if you nominated a Week 4 article and presented your
article on Tuesday of Week 4, your Review Essay must be submitted before 11:59pm on
Sunday of Week 5.
A timetable of class presentations and submission dates will be posted on the course website.
Review Essay word limit: 2,000.
A cover sheet must be attached to your Essay (available on the course website). Your Review
Essay must be submitted via the Turnitin submission box that is available on the course
website.
Please note that it is School policy that late submission of assignments will incur in a
penalty. Late submission will incur a penalty of 5% per day (e.g. 0 day 1 minute = 5% penalty,
2 days 21 hours = 15% penalty) or part thereof (including weekends) from the due date and
time. An assessment will not be accepted after 5 days (120 hours) of the original deadline
unless special consideration has been approved. An assignment is considered late if the
requested format, such as hard copy or electronic copy, has not been submitted on time or
where the ‘wrong’ assignment has been submitted.
