ISE 580 Performance Analysis with Simulation Exam 1 Submit on March 8 by 3:30 pm
Submit your report as a pdf file (obtained from a MS Word file) onto Blackboard showing your name
and USC ID, and a screenshot with the required results for each of the following exercises (use SEEDS
value equal to 111)
1. (30 pts) Exercise 4-22 p201.
Use a DECIDE module with Type chosen to be n-way by Chance to direct the passengers to the
appropriate check-in station. Include a screenshot of the ARENA model and a 3-by-3 table with
the Average values as follows. The rows labeled as Queue length, Time in queue, and Resource
Utilization, and the columns labeled as Manual, Automated, and Security. In addition, report
the Average Total Time the passengers spend in the system.
2. Exercise 6-17 p306.
(a) (30 pts) Use the ARENA Output Analyzer with option Analyze > Confidence Interval on
Mean > Classical to construct Confidence intervals to compare Average Total time in System
of 4-22 and 6-17 models with 200 replications. Get a screenshot of these CIs in your report.
Which model seems to perform best? Why?
(b) (40 pts) Use the ARENA Output Analyzer with option Analyze > Compare Means to con-
struct a Paired-t Confidence interval to compare the Average Total time in System of 4-22 and
6-17 models with 200 replications. Get a screenshot of this CI in your report. Can we conclude
that there is a statistically significant improvement in the Average Total Time the passengers
spend in the system? Why?
Report must be made of letter size pages in portrait format (not landscape). Animations are not
needed. In all cases use seed value equal to 111.
Do review your report before submission. Only one submission is allowed.

Steps to use the Output Analyzer
• Build the model
• Run it for 1 replication (to double check results)
• Add to the model, the Statistics Module
to choose the Output measure and to save the values in a .dat file
• Run it for n replications
• Open Output Analyzer, load the .dat files
• Build CIs and perform hypotheses tests
• Conclude
