Mid-semester Exam Information
Semester 1 2023
General Information
The mid-semester exam will be held on Wednesday 19 April 2023 (week 8). It will be a
monitored exam (with supervision) on a separate exam module (access will be made available
about a week earlier). The exam will be worth 40% of the overall mark for the unit. The material
covered by the exam are lectures 1 to 5 and tutorials 1 to 5.
The exam will begin at 2:00pm (Sydney time). There will be 60 minutes of time.
You must not communicate with other students during the exam. During the exam, you must not
use any third party communication or collaboration apps or websites. Access to any such app or
website is strictly prohibited during your exam and is a serious academic integrity breach.
The exam will consist of 12 questions.
Questions 1 to 10 are multiple choice questions (2 mark each; 20 marks in total). You should
select the best response from five possible options.
Questions 11 and 12 will be numerical short answer questions (20 marks in total). You should “fill in
the blanks” by entering numbers into the relevant boxes. When entering numbers, please observe
the following rules:
ECOS3025 – Economics of Regulation – Mid-semester Exam – Semester 1 2023 – Vladimir Smirnov 2
• Do not include any dollar signs or commas. For example, 1200 (not $1200 or 1,200).
• You may include a negative sign and/or decimal point only where required. For example, -14
(not minus 14); 230 (not 230.00).
• If your answer involves a fraction, you should express it with a decimal point and write up to
two decimal places. For example, 7.5 (not 7.50, 7 1/2 or 7 and a half), 3.33 (not 3 1/3, 10/3 or
3.3333333).
If you do not follow these instructions, you may lose marks as a result of entering a "correct" answer
in the wrong format.
Please note that you will only have one attempt for this exam.
Further information
It is your responsibility to keep track of your time. In the past, some students have stated that the
quiz timer does not update or can be wrong because of an internet connection issue. Please use the
time on your computer or electronic device so that you always know how much time you have left.
Only questions completed within the test time will be marked.
During the exam, you must not contact the unit of study coordinator or tutor under any
circumstances. This includes by email, Ed question or Canvas message.
If you encounter technical difficulties during the test, students must email
canvas.tests@sydney.edu.au with your student ID number, unit code (ECOS3025) and a contact
phone number. Please do not contact the unit of study coordinator or tutor regarding technical
difficulties or to send a copy of your answers. We can not accept any answers by this method.
