Online Lab Exam
ELEC 2141

INFORMATION ON ONLINE LABORATORY EXAMINATION
1. Online laboratory examination is an individual assessment and will be held in week 10.
2. Students in each laboratory slot will be divided into two groups. All students in the online lab (H16A) will take
the lab exam at the same time, which will be Thursday 20th April 2pm.
3. The examination is open book. You may use your laboratory manual and your lab files. You may not use the
internet during the exam.
4. You will be given two tasks to complete in the examination. Both will be simulation tasks.
5. Each task will be marked out of 50.
6. For simulation tasks, you will be required to create a project in Xilinx for a combinational circuit whose logic
diagram is provided. You are expected to enter the circuit schematically or using Verilog HDL, create test
bench, and perform simulation.
7. For the simulation tasks, the marking scheme is as follows:
20 Marks – for correctly entering the schematics or Verilog HDL
20 Marks – for correctly creating the test bench
10 Marks – for performing and demonstrating the simulation correctly
8. You will have 30 mins for the first task and 30 mins for the second. After the 60 mins duration, the
demonstrator will mark you whether you have completed the task or not and record the mark on your
examination sheet.
9. For the second simulation task you will be given a testbench and a picture of the correct simulation results to
aid you in testing your design.
10. You will receive a Teams meeting invite for your exam which you must join promptly at the beginning of your
session. Announcements will be made through your regular Teams channel, please keep an eye on this.
11. You may choose whether you use Xilinx on your computer or Xilinx on one of the EE119 PCs via remote access
over Teams. If you work locally on your computer, you are responsible for ensuring no software issues occur.
You have been given an extra 15 mins (total 60 mins) compared to the F2F exam to account for any issues
with lag/downloading files etc. If you wish to remote access a lab PC you will need to submit this form
https://forms.office.com/r/rzAr2JRDmd
12. If you work locally you will need to share your screen for the duration of the exam. If you are remote accessing
a lab PC we will already be able to see your work.

13. You will have 15 mins at the beginning of the exam to familiarise yourself with the exam environment (this is
mostly for those using remote access) including downloading any files needed. Your exam will begin 15 mins
after the start of your session, at which time your examination paper (as well as testbench and image of
expected results) will become available on Moodle. You will have 60 mins to complete the exam. The
remaining time will be used for marking.
14. When you complete a task or would like to be marked at any time, you may add your name to the thread of
the post in your Teams channel (exactly like your regular labs) to signal the demonstrator to mark you. You
do not need to wait until the 60 mins duration is elapsed.
15. The demonstrator will take a couple of minutes to mark you. During marking we will not be asking you
questions, and we can't give feedback on your work.
16. Your demonstrators cannot help you fix your design.
