P2X POSTER ASSIGNMENT

Individual assignment:
Power-to-X (P2X) is the use of electricity for the conversion, energy storage, and reconversion
of surplus electric power, typically during periods where fluctuating renewable energy
generation exceeds load.
Your assignment is to propose an P2X concept that addresses a challenge or opportunity you
have identified. You have freedom to focus on any aspect of the P2X initiative, from targeted
chemistry (hydrogen, ammonia, methane etc), the location, grid stability, Frequency Control
Ancillary Services (FCAS), techno-economics, industry target sector (agri, transport, concrete
etc).
The assignment is in the form of a poster presentation, providing an overview of your
proposal. The poster should introduce the challenge/opportunity that is addressed, the
location and benefits/challenges of the site, the reason as to why P2X is a viable option of the
task and the main discussion addressing some of the criteria listed above.
The use of visual aids in your poster is recommended.

This assignment is not an essay, we do not require a discussion of P2X in general. Instead
focus on an aspect of the P2X initiative and introduce your own thoughts to your proposal.
Support your ‘argument’ with referenced sources.
You can use PowerPoint or any software that you are familiar with to create your poster.
However, please submit your poster in PDF format (1 page) only. You have the freedom to
use any layout for your poster, but please avoid using too much text. Instead, focus on making
the storyline easy to read by using a combination of summaries of your findings and relevant
diagrams.
Marking criteria:
Content (80%):
The content of the poster should be clear, concise, and relevant to the topic. The use of
references and sources is required.
• Case study description (10%): Introduce the case study, its limitations, and the aim of
the poster.
• Solutions (40%): Explain clearly your proposed ways to improve or apply the selected
P2X strategy (this section needs to be supported by data/literature).
• Conclusions (10%): Briefly summarise the outcomes of your study.
• Innovation (20%): Be creative! Use the information learned in class and tutorial
Lyout - Design (20%)
The poster needs to be visually appealing, has a clear structure and layout. It needs to be easy
to read and effectively conveys the key messages. It should be filled with images, graphs,
diagrams, tables instead of text only.
A few examples of how to write a case study that you may find useful are:
Case study content example 1 – Location
Development:
• In [selected location], most renewable energy comes from [solar/wind/hydro/etc].
• Only X% of the energy exceeding the current need is stored and reutilised
• Given the resources and technology level of the city, the power to X strategy is
selected
• The P2X strategy will be implemented as follows….
• Implementation of P2X energy will help reduce the cost of electricity/fuel/etc and
emissions (possibly quantify)
• Conclusions and future recommendations …..

Case study content example 2 – Process
Development:
• [H2, CH4, CH3OH, fuel, transport] can be generated from excess energy obtained from
[solar/wind/hydro/etc].
• This process can be at time inefficient, with a calculated efficiency of [x%]
• Studies have shown an increase in energy storage/production when these changes are
made
• The P2X strategy will be improved by applying these changes and optimising the
working conditions
• Implementation of these changes will improve the efficiency of this P2X strategy
(possibly quantify)
• Conclusions and future recommendations ….
