CHNS 3611 Chinese for Specific Purposes 1
Written assignment guidelines
One written assignment (40%): You are required to write a paper to report on a mini
research project related to your major area of studies. The topic should relate to issues in
China, about China or Chinese culture, education, business, economy, etc. It can be cases,
events or incidents happened in other countries, including Australia, as long as it relates to
China in some way. (Length: minimum 2000 Chinese characters but no more than 2200
characters. If you use word count in Microsoft Word, it needs to be more than 2000 words,
because the count includes punctuation.)
Due: at 23:59 on May 26 in Week 13
You have already written and revised your research proposal based on your chosen mini
research project. This essay is actually the final report on your research project. The essay
should include the following sections with the recommended sub-headings:
• Introduction: background and questions to be answered in your project; the
significance of your project.
• Literature review: you have presented it in your individual oral presentation, so you
may include a condensed version here. However, if you’ve made major changes to
your oral presentation, please include a complete version.
Note: please submit your individual presentation PPT or script (if applicable) together
with your paper (separate files) in this same dropbox, even though you have submitted
it for the Individual presentation. This is for the reference of the marker of your final
paper.
• Methodology: introduce your research method and research setting, participants, data
collection methods and procedures very briefly (one short passage is good enough).
• Results In this section, you will present your research findings based on your primary
data analysis. (Place the questionnaire or interview questions or the source documents
for your project in Appendix).
• Discussion and conclusion: In this section, you must include a critical analysis,
reflections and demonstrate a principled personal perspective on the issues in question.
You need to discuss the key issues and your answers to the questions, presents your
argument and include suggestions for further action or research. A brief conclusion is
also expected.
• Reference: Please follow the guide discussed in class. Check class notes on Canvas.
• Appendix
Note: Reference and Appendix are not included in the word count. They need to be excluded
from your word count on the cover sheet.
Submission notes:
