Q1 (1.5 marks): In the first PSSE-Python PBL session, we have illustrated how to read data of
a network. Now, please calculate the total system inertia (in MVAs) of power generators for
all three cases provided in the assignment. Then, tabulate the results of the three cases below
and comment on the trend of system inertia through the three cases.

Q2 (2 marks): In the first PSSE-Python PBL session, we have demonstrated how to trip the
generator and obtain the frequency change against time in PSSE for the case 1. Now, based
on the three PSSE case studies provided, trip the synchronous generator SG connected at Bus
101 at two second and monitor the system frequency response of all three cases. Plot all the
frequency responses (in Hz from 0s to 50s) in the same figure for comparison purposes.
Please note the following points:
• Trip the generator at t=2s
• X-axis: t=0s to t=50s
• Y-axis: system frequency in Hz for 3 cases
• Legend for 3 cases

Q3 (1.5 marks): This is a simple self-study question. Please complete the Tables 1-3 below by
calculating the steady-state short circuit currents Isc, system’s MVAsc and short circuit ratio
(SCR) at the buses specified in the tables (refer to Blackboard “Assignment Help File.pdf” p.14-
p.16 for more details on how to apply fault in PSS/E in steady-state conditions). Moreover,
write down your conclusion based on the theory learned in the lecture. Answer of one of the
rows (in red) has been provided to help to verify your first answer.
