Hi everyone,
There has been a question about the format of the 1:20 detail sections:
Question: Would it be suitable to have Section A be from the Ground to First Floor, then Section B will document the
Second Floor to the Roof?
So they would be from the same perspective, but the two drawings will focus on the upper and lower sections of the
building separately.
Or am I misunderstanding, and you would like the sections to be in from different views/parts of the building.
Answer: Both 1:20 detail sections should be from the bottom of the footings of the ground level all the way up to the top
surface of the roof sheeting. It will be difficult to get the complete building at 1:20 onto a single A3 sheet but there are two
main ways to manage this:
1. Turn the A3 sheet to portrait format (or turn the drawing on the sheet sideways so the height of the building aligns with the
long edge of the A3 sheet, and
2. Cut out the ‘boring’ parts of the drawing – we are most interested in where the ground floor meets the walls, where the walls
meet the upper level, where the walls meet the roof and the top of the roof surface. You can cut out much of the inbetween
parts of the drawing.
Both techniques are shown in the attached example 1:20 detail section example A. Alternatively, you can split the 1:20 detail
section across two pages as shown in detail section example B.
To further clarify, if you are drawing an external detail section (all of them except detail section 2) then you are expected to draw the
full line of enclosure as it steps in and out in plan over the full height of the building. For detail section 2 you should show the east
wall of the kitchen, the west wall of the main bathrooms and the roof structure over.
Cheers,
Paul

Good evening, paul. I have some doubts about the content of the make-up exam. I checked the
drawing and found that some sections could not be checked. section4 and 5 correspond to the
positions of sectionG and D, but neither of these sections can be viewed. So do I need to model?
Or can I draw the detail of 1:20 with sectionA and E in the same direction?
